David Hamburgh was named designer of the year at the Regional Press Awards taking home a gong for the Edinburgh Evening News.
His colleague Gina Davidson picked up runner-up spot at the same ceremony for Scoop of the Year where her expose on the Mortonhall Ashes Scandal was highly commended, Melanie Adams of the Southern Daily Echo shading her to top spot.
(I’m particularly pleased for David, as he was an old class-mate at school in Edinburgh)
Simon Bain, of The Herald, was highly commended in the business writer of the year award which went to Robin Johnson of the Derby Telegraph.
Elsewhere the Dundee Evening Telegraph was highly commended in the Daily/Sunday newspaper of the year category (sales under 25,000).
While Ian Rutherford for The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday was named Photographer of the Year.
The Liverpool Echo emerged as the big winner on the day, with four prizes.
