Johnston Press opens £150,000 war chest to drive online sales

Publishers Johnston Press says it is looking to expand its online display activities by recruiting a new team of five sales executives specifically focused on digital.

The roles – based in Scotland, Yorkshire, North Midlands, East Midlands and in the South (Portsmouth & area) – are banded with a top salary of £30,000 each.

In Scotland where it publishes The Scotsman among other titles, the position will be expected to work a beat consisting of Edinburgh, Fife, Glasgow and Angus.

An advert for the role states: “These are new positions in Johnston Press Digital Publishing, working within the expanding Online Display team.”

It also says the successful candidates will be “championing and driving” the digital display revenue across its regions.

The closing date for applicants is May 31.

In March Johnston Press reported a 12.7 per cent decline in display advertising for 2012, but 12 per cent growth in digital revenues.

However on Monday CEO Ashley Highfield reported the company’s first return to operating profit in seven years.
