TRINITY Mirror is still quietly waiting to decide who will
fill the void left at Scottish & Universal Newspapers following the
departure of Managing Director Alex Cargill almost a month ago.
Cargill, who had over 34 years loyal service with the group,
opted for early retirement in December with an announcement on his replacement
still to be made.
He began his career back in 1974 joining the Lennox Herald
and worked in every S&UN region since, being appointed to the board in 1984
and eventually promoted to Managing Director in 1999.
A former president of the Scottish Newspaper Publishers
Association he was in 2002 honoured with a lifetime achievement award presented
by the Publicity Club.
In a message sent out to former colleagues on the company
intranet, Managing Director of Trinity Mirror Regionals, Georgina Harvey, paid
tribute to Cargill’s “outstanding” leadership and contribution.
She added: “Everyone who has come into contact with Alex
over the years will want to join me in wishing him well for a long and happy
retirement.”
Trinity Mirror confirmed no decision had yet been made over
his replacement. Commercial Director Bill Steven is currently covering.
