Johnston Press Tipped For Takeover

Interesting take on the Johnston Press sage from Mediapolis speculating that Ananda Krishnan may up his 20 per cent stake in the publishers of The Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday and Edinburgh Evening News, and even mount a takeover.

It states: "The usually canny investor bought in at 94p – only to see the stock drop to 7p on fears that the publisher needs another financing. This can't make him look good in front of his billionaire friends, but it is not obvious that Krishnan is yet ready to reinvest in the publisher of The Scotsman and the Yorkshire Post to cut debt further. At this price, he might as well take over the business – which would at least reduce the average cost of buying in, and avoid the daily embarrassment of seeing what the shares are at."

It comes a day after the BBC's Scottish business editor Douglas Fraser also speculated that a takeover could be on the cards by either Krishnan or The Herald Group.
