Seven Day Operation Looms for Herald Titles

Newsquest unveiled plans to take its online operations into a new era by introducing a 24/7 operation by the end of this year.

The move in itself would seem to make practical sense, and in a less cynical age one to be broadly welcomed.

But set against the backdrop of imminent job cuts and fears over the long term future of the papers, nerves are shredding within.

It also makes this blog by former scotsman.com editor Stewart Kirkpatrick food for thought as Scotland wrestles with what to do with it’s two alleged papers of record.

And as reported previously, with News International now putting its tanks on the lawn this side of the Border, you can’t help wonder how long before the other London heavies cast their gaze north too.
