Field of dreams

The Mirror, 15/04/2005, p72

HEARTS have unveiled ambitious plans for space-age new £35million super stadium.
And the proposals will leave the Edinburgh club’s fans overjoyed – because it is for the existing Gorgie site occupied by their beloved Tynecastle.
The sensational looking structure – which comes complete with a luxury hotel adjacent – is one of a number of plans currently being looked at by the Hearts board.
But it is the clearest sign yet that the club’s new ambitious millionaire Lithuanian owner Vladimir Romanov means business.
Last night a Hearts insider told Mirror Sport: “The drawings are one of several different options being explored by the club.
“Everything is at a very early stage, but the club is ambitious and looking to maximise ways of bringing in income.
“It has to find a way to draw back lapsed fans, to make sure the needs of existing ones are met, and to ensure the club offers the very highest standard of facilities and entertainment.”
Plans to stay at Tynecastle had been ditched by the previous board as unsuitable, sparking fury among the support.
Now the board, under the stewardship of new chief executive Phil Anderton, appears to be showing the kind of leadership the fans have been crying out for.
The plans show Hearts demolishing the existing ‘main’ stand and in its place would be a curved super-structure housing offices, hospitality units, and a luxury hotel.
A second option for a smaller £8 million stand is also on the table. Hearts have also unveiled a money spinning new kit deal with sportswear firm hummel.

* Artists drawings of the proposed new stadium appeared in the Scottish Daily Mirror on 15th April 2005.
