HeadLine: Royale approval

RED-HOT club favourites Mint Royale have given this summer’s T in the
Park festival their seal of approval.
The Mirror can reveal that the two piece, who scored their last big hit
with Sexiest Man in Jamaica, have agreed to play a rare set at the King
Tut’s tent at Balado in Perthshire on Saturday July 12.
Neil Claxton and Chris Baker’s gig is sure to attract a posse of
high-profile fans with Fatboy Slim and Noel Gallagher already rumoured
to be ready to head north for the show.
The Manchester lads’ brassy brand of funk has seen them storm to Number
2 in the charts with Tequila and also helped propel them onto the big
screen in the hit movie Serendipity.
The pair also distinguished themselves as remixers with an ace
reworking of Kenickie’s I Would Fix You in 1998 that became a favourite
of top Radio 1 DJ Pete Tong.
But it wasn’t the reworking the record company had in mind. Chris
explained: “We were actually meant to do a drum ‘n’ bass remix. But the
original was the wrong speed, so we ended up doing it our own way.
“That was really the birth of the Mint Royale sound proper as we
started doing stuff we liked rather than worrying about who’d play it.”
As well as Mint Royale, T in the Park will welcome a huge array of
artists this year including Coldplay, REM, White Stripes, Proclaimers,
The Charlatans, and Sugababes.
