HeadLine: QUEEN TO OPEN PALACE BOOZER AND OFF SALES

THE Queen is to open her first pub – in Scotland.
Her Majesty will become the poshest landlady in the country if – as
expected – licensing chiefs rubber-stamp the money-spinning venture
later this month.
She wants to sell booze from a cafe-style bar currently being built at
the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
And she has also applied for a separate licence for an off-sales,
allowing staff to sell sought after Royal label tipples such as whisky,
wine and gin.
If council chiefs give the go-ahead in time for the next tourist
season, experts predict the Royals will make a fortune from the
venture. A spokesman for VisitScotland said: “Tourists like mementoes
of visits to historic attractions.
“If and when such a venture went ahead it would no doubt prove
popular.” A spokesman for Edinburgh’s licensing board said: “The
applications will be discussed at a meeting on January 19.
“They will be passed if there are no objections.”
A Palace of Holyroodhouse spokesman said: “The aim of applying is to
give us flexibility to plan for the future.”
