AN anguished mum beat her young son to death with a golf club on
Christmas Day before throwing herself 30ft from the window of her flat.
As she lay in agony with crippling injuries, Ali-son Gorrie told
police: “I’ve done something terrible. Don’t treat me, I want to die.”
Officers then found five-year-old Brendan dead from terrible head
injuries.
The tragic story was told at the High Court in Glasgow yesterday when
Gorrie, 36, pleaded guilty to the killing through diminished
responsibility.
The original murder charge was reduced because she was suffering from
mental illness.
Gorrie, of Leith, who is in a wheelchair, was taken to court from
hospital by taxi. She suffered multiple fractures to her chest, pelvis,
spine and legs.
The court heard that Gorrie, who had a history of depression, wrapped
Christmas gifts before hitting Brendan with a putter.
A friend who found her asked: “Where does it hurt?” She replied: “In my
heart.”
Sentence was deferred for reports.
