HeadLine: Lockerbie trial witness fears
The Mirror, 04/02/2002, p2

THE Government will tomorrow be forced to explain why a key witness in
the Lockerbie trial was given hospitality by Scots police investigating
the bombing.
MPs George Galloway and Tam Dalyell have tabled questions at
Westminster demanding to know why Maltese shopkeeper Tony Gauci enjoyed
free trips to the UK.
In conversations with an undercover investigator, Gauci was recorded
boasting about being taken on fishing trips and of staying at top
hotels in Glasgow.
Gauci is a key Crown witness and the revelations cast doubts over the
integrity of his testimony, which was crucial to Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed
Al Megrahi’s original conviction.
