A DAD was gunned down on his doorstep by two hitmen who blasted him at
point blank range.
Richard McNeill, 28, was wounded in the abdomen while his young family
slept upstairs at his home in Blantyre, Lanarkshire.
Only expert surgery at nearby Hairmyres Hospital – and luck – saved the
forklift driver’s life. By some miracle, only one bullet hit McNeill,
who is known to police.
He was last night said to be in a “serious but stable” condition in
Last night one of McNeill’s relatives, who asked not to be named,
revealed: “It was touch and go but surgeons managed to save his life.
They’ve had to remove part of the bowel but they’ve recovered the
bullet and he will pull through.”
Forensic teams were last night scouring the scene to find the second
McNeill, who is known as Titch, was in bed when the gunmen came to his
door. Despite his injuries, he chased them.
One source told the Scottish Daily Mirror: “He’s a right hardman and
was going to crack heads together.
“Then he collapsed.”
The victim had been alone with his daughters, aged three months and 18
months, and sons aged five and seven, when he was attacked around
midnight on Sunday.
His 27-year-old wife, Michelle, had been visiting a cousin.
Detectives are aware of threats against him but the victim is refusing
to help them.
The source said: “Titch knows who is behind this. It’s not an end of
