STV golden girl Sarah Heaney is to front a new entertainment show for
the station – just weeks after being dropped from another over her
drink driving past.
The new project – Moviejuice – which hits the screens from August 31,
will see the former model interview star actors and review big flicks
showing in Scotland.
But the move has upset some colleagues. One source told the Mirror:
“What are viewers supposed to think?
“One minute she presents a flagship news programme dealing with
disasters and tragedies, the next she’s telling us where’s best for
“It’s bad judgement – she should either deal with heavyweight issues or
the fluff. You can’t have both.
“It simply undermines the credibility of the news output.”
The Mirror revealed six weeks ago how Heaney, 30, had been sidelined
from STV’s prime time car show Wheel Nuts.
The newsreader had been due to appear on the programme but the plans
were shelved after it was revealed Heaney smashed her car into an
Edinburgh house in 1998 while almost three times the alcohol limit.
She pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving while under the
influence of alcohol at Edinburgh Sheriff Court and was banned from
driving for two years and fined £1,500.
The revelation was a major embarrassment to STV, which told staff in
the 1980s they faced the sack if they were collared for drink driving.
Another source said last night: “People wanted her taken down a peg or
two. But they now seem more interested in keeping her than editorial
