CELTIC striker Chris Sutton was last night holding a hospital vigil as
doctors fought to save his baby’s life.
Two-month-old James was born weighing three pounds but was doing well
until suffering a relapse just before Celtic played Valencia on
Thursday.
Sutton flew back to Glasgow after the match and immediately went to
Yorkhill Children’s Hospital in Glasgow.
Sources at Celtic – who refused to say what was wrong with the child at
the Sutton family’s request – confirmed that little James is fighting
to survive.
Manager Martin O’Neil said: “Chris’ son is critical but stable. He
doesn’t want to release any more detail.”
Parkhead chiefs have now issued a plea to the media asking them to
respect the Sutton family’s privacy.
Sutton’s wife Samantha was left distraught after being “doorstepped” by
reporters.
She was looking after their other three sons at the family’s farm-house
home on the outskirts of Glasgow before a tearful reunion with her
husband yesterday morning.
Rangers star Barry Ferguson said last night that his thoughts were with
Old Firm rival Chris rather than football.
Ferguson, whose own son was rushed to hospital two months ago, said: “I
know from experience with my kids that family comes first. My best
wishes go out to the family.”
