A SCOTS jail has been banned from taking any more prisoners after a
massive Valentine’s Day breakout – of flu.
More than 300 staff and inmates at Low Moss prison in Bishopbriggs,
near Glasgow, were struck down by the bug.
Public health officials warned jail bosses that the only way to stop
the virus spreading throughout the system was to shut Low Moss down to
all but those serving their sentence.
Now the category ‘C’ jail is posted off-limits to new convicts who have
had to be shipped elsewhere, putting strain on other prisons.
Medical experts have identified the bug as the highly contagious
Influenza B.
Wardens have all been offered vaccinations and the 327 cons have all
been examined by doctors.
One inmate told the Scottish Mirror: “It’s been spreading like
wildfire. Nearly every person has been hit and folk are coughing and
spluttering all over the place.”
